New CEO to Usher in Next Growth Phase as Foundation’s Goals Expand
Washington, DC (Nov. 15, 2016) – The US-China Strong Foundation announced today that CEO Carola McGiffert will step down after successfully growing the Foundation from its launch in 2013 as an independent nonprofit to its current role as an influential player in US-China relations.
Under McGiffert’s leadership, the Foundation has achieved and exceeded its initial goal of seeing 100,000 Americans study in China and strengthened the bilateral relationship between the United States and China by fostering a shared commitment to educational opportunities for all students.
“We are extremely grateful to Carola for her leadership as the Foundation’s first President and CEO,” said George Lee, chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “US-China Strong has made significant contributions to the US-China relationship, and we look forward to building upon our progress as we look to the future.”
Led by Lee, the Board will work closely with McGiffert as it conducts a nationwide search for the next US-China Strong CEO to ensure a smooth organizational transition. Lee will also head up the CEO search committee established by the Board.
“I’m excited about the opportunities the new CEO will have to move the organization through its next phase of growth, which includes our latest campaign, 1 Million Strong, to help one million American students learn Mandarin Chinese by 2020,” Lee said. “I also look forward to seeing future American and Chinese leaders benefit from the people-to-people ties, study abroad and Mandarin language learning opportunities made possible by US-China Strong.”
